Foods to Boost Your Immune System.

One of the best ways to improve your immune system, is to look at the foods you are eating. So you need to start eating the foods that are nutrient rich for a healthy body.

I found this great video that talks about some of the foods we can consume, to boost our immune system.

So lets summarize the important foods referred to in the video. Because these foods supply some of the best nutrients to support a healthy immune system.

I’ve done them in the same order as they appear in the video, just to make it easy for you to follow through.

The author started with a couple of foods that are a good source of Vitamin A . They are fermented cod liver oil, and pasture raised chicken livers. A great way to use chicken livers is in pate, do you remember enjoying it spread on crusty bread.

The next group of foods are all a good source of Vitamin D. Of course the best way to get Vitamin D, is by exposure of the skin to the sun. But if it’s not possible to spend time outside in the sun, then include the following foods in your diet.

Butter and lard from pasture raised animals is great. And so are eggs, but particularly the yolks. You may also find some salmon eggs as a special treat.

The next group he talked about were foods containing healthy Saturated Fats. Good saturated fats are very important for optimal lung function.

Some good sources of saturated fats are ghee, which is made from butter, and virgin coconut oil. Coconut milk and dried coconut powder, are also rich in the same fats as coconut oil. He also mentions MCT oil, which is made from coconut oil. MCT oil also has many benefits for the brain and nervous system, so a really good addition to any diet.

He is a great fan of Bone Broth, preferably made from pasture raised chickens or beef. The broth is high in gelatin, collagen and chrondroitin. And of course you can add all sorts of fresh veges to the broth, to boost the nutrition.

We are now learning the relationship between the gut and the immune system. A good gut microbiome is absolutely essential for a healthy body. So the next group of foods are those that are made by Fermentation, a common member being sauerkraut. These foods supply the good micro-organisms critical for optimal health.

And then he finishes with some great antivirals, namely ginger, garlic and turmeric. These fantastic roots have so many health benefits. We need to include them in our food as often as possible.

I hope you can include lots of these foods into your meals each day. Not only to improve your immune system but your overall health.
